The ShipTown (or also known as the Space Vikings Town) was a group environment project where I worked in a team of 5 to create a playable game environment.
The premise of this environment is a fleet of spaceships became lost and crashed on an uncharted planet. The crews of those fallen ships then salvaged their ruined spacecrafts and turned them into houses and established a village where they developed into a warrior culture, as their new home was rife with danger. The idea was that their main foe was a giant bird apex predator species, requiring the travelers largest ship to be made into walls and a shield to be generated around the settlement.
One of the biggest challenges was to design the houses to be sci-fi with a medieval/viking twist. Some houses are made to resemble Norse longhouses as well as spaceships. In addition to this almost all houses were to be made up of modular pieces to maximize the variation in the structures and help add to the kit-bashed aesthetic we were going for.
This project was also undertaken when many group members started getting into Game of Thrones.
